Getting Started

ManUp is good for you, but don't be hasty about it, there are a couple of things you need to think about before you start:8,9

Get medical advice
Take a look at this quick test, if you answer yes to any of the questions and are over 45 you need to get the Doctors OK to do vigorous activity. We don't want to put you off, but deciding to ManUp is a serious business and we want to make sure you don't injure yourself in the process!

Get your gear
You don't need a lot of equipment to get more active, in fact more often than not all you need is a pair of comfortable sports shoes. They don't have to be expensive, but make sure that they are suitable for the activity you want to do. This will help avoid injuries.

Warm Up - Stretch - Cool down
There are some things you need to do to prevent injuries, especially if you plan to engage in vigorous intensity physical activity . Always warm up by doing about five minutes of moderate intensity activity and some basic stretches before getting active. This will enable your muscles to perform well and recover better. Also remember to cool down and maybe do some more stretches at the end of your activity.

Don't overdo it
You need to allow enough time to build up your fitness. This can take a while, but there is no need to rush it: you have a better chance of getting fit if you take your time, rather than trying to force it. You will just end up sore and unmotivated to get active again.

Be Sun Smart
Outdoor activity exposes you to the damaging effects of the sun, so don't be a 'typical' guy who goes out in the middle of the day when it is really hot, without wearing proper clothing or sunscreen. It's not hard to be Sun Smart!

Drink water
Always drink water before and during your activities! Drink water regularly - don't wait until you're thirsty. In our hot and humid climate it’s easy to become dehydrated so remember to keep a water bottle handy when you’re exercising.
